Henriette Günther

Henriette Günther is a licensed physician. She completed her medical degree from 2018 to June 2026 at Hannover Medical School. Since April 2026, she has been a fellow at SFB 1665. As part of her doctoral research, she is studying gender-affirming interventions in the GDR’s healthcare system from 1976 to 1990. In doing so, she examines medical and health policy developments related to gender transitions in the GDR from a medical-historical perspective. 

The goal of her work is to trace the medical and legal frameworks, clinical procedures, administrative hurdles, and societal perceptions. In addition, her work examines sexological debates on trans identity in the late socialist period of the GDR, identifies continuities, and situates these within current discourses.
