S08: The Diverse Psyche in Therapy: A History of Sex/Gender Knowledge in West German Psychotherapy (1960–2020)

This project aims to identify and characterise trajectories of sex/gender knowledge in (1) hegemonic psychotherapies and clinical psychology; (2) the women’s, the gay and lesbian, and LGBT*IQ movements. To this end, published sources, archive material and interviews with contemporary witnesses from the 1960s onwards will be analyzed. The project adds psychotherapy as a context that is relevant for the diversity of sex and gender but has often been overlooked.
