Mostafa is a Postdoc at the lab Prof. Dr. med. Olaf Hiort and Dr. rer. nat. Ralf Werner at the Section of Paediatic Endocrinology and Diabetology. His work focuses on the use of single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial biology technologies in understanding the mammalian gonadal development in health and disease. His current project aims at deriving high quality single-nucleus transcriptome data from archived formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) gonadal tissues to enable the precise profiling of transcriptome of individual gonadal cells. Successful single-nucleus RNA profiling of archived FFPE typical male testis as well as gonadal tissues of individuals with infertility or differences of sex development will ultimately help to better understand the development of human gonads in health and disease.
